Dear Friends of Porcelain,

The days are long but the years are short, and I cannot believe how quickly time passes us by. In the blink of an eye and Porcelain turns 11 as I recall each Porcelain milestone like it happened only yesterday.

We didn’t make a big deal of our tenth anniversary because we felt that we were still a young company with so much room to grow. However, in 2020, we were put to the test by COVID. Questions raced through my mind – do we have sufficient cash-flow, do we have a nimble team, can we preserve jobs, will our customers support us, how do we continue to serve during this period?  It was when we answered all these questions I’d realized our last ten years haven’t been in vain as we have built quite a solid foundation.

From establishing our first spa to developing a full range of in-house formulated products, we have come far. We have won more than 70 beauty awards locally and internationally, proud to be recognized globally as the Best Beauty Spa in Asia for 8 years (WLSA, Haute Grandeur), and featured on the Louis Vuitton City Guide since 2012. I have recently written about how our dreams can come true, if we work hard for it. I had dreamed of a day where Porcelain would be recognized as a skincare leader, while being human as a company. Porcelain 2020 isn’t too far from that dream.

The pandemic and temporary closure of our spas, have forced us to grow and to change. I believe these new shifts will pave the way for future success:

Training has been our core and we have now taken to virtual training. We took the opportunity to refresh and up skill every single person in the team, clocking in an estimated 160 hours of training per person during Circuit Breaker. Fun fact: Up to this day, I personally test every therapist before they are allowed to perform the treatments on you to ensure uncompromising results and quality.

Virtual Skin Education (VSE)

Education forms the heart of what we do and we wanted to continue doing so in the virtual space. A task force was put together to create the program in March and a three-module education program is now available for you. This is not a sales program – but one to connect, engage and build your skincare relationship with you.

Personal Prescription

During this ‘break’, we have kept jobs by keeping busy.  Your therapist have worked in teams to discuss your skin issues, to develop a personalized product and treatment plan to help you achieve your skin goals.  You can now view the prescribed plans by logging on to your account on the latest  Porcelain Skin Mobile App.

With online sales being our only revenue stream the past months, we have worked tirelessly to ensure our skincare products are readily available for you. You can now shop for Porcelain skincare on Porcelain, Krisshop (yes, you can redeem using miles), Lazada, Amazon and a few more in the pipeline.

Also, many friends of Porcelain have been so kind to post their skincare routine, and testimonials for us on Instagram and on our website. We are tremendously grateful for your word-of-mouth, for this is what our business is built on!

Giving Back

As a company, we are constantly exploring new ways to give back and contribute. We have launched Reusable Cotton Pads that comes with a cute laundry bag and 100% of profits goes to The Nature Conservancy. Our R&D team have also been hard at work to create a sanitizer good enough for use on the face. Leveraging on our knowledge on skin, the Skin Protecting Sanitiser is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, 100% natural, alcohol-free and child-friendly. It does not just protect you from viruses but also keeps acne at bay. 500 pieces from the first batch will be donated to Healthcare workers.

Thank you for believing in us and for standing by us. You are the reason we are here and kept going. We are very grateful for the opportunity to serve you the past 11 years and look forward to many more years to come.

With Love,
Pauline Ng

Dear friends and family of Porcelain,

Following the announcement of the start of Phase 2, we are happy to announce that our spas have officially opened on 19 June.

While we are excited to welcome you back with relaxing treatments and services, your safety is our priority. Thus, we are happy to announce that all our spas are Clean Mark Certified. In addition to being certified, we will also be conducting the following procedures in our spas:

– Social Distancing within spa premises
– Sanitising rooms before & after use
– Therapists conducting treatments will be wearing a face mask, face shield and latex gloves
– Spa beds are sanitised and disposable bed sheets are replaced after each client
– Hourly wipe downs with medical grade sanitising solutions
– Providing hand sanitisers throughout the spa

Upon the announcement of the start of Phase 2, we have been receiving a high volume of requests to make appointments in our spas. Though we are grateful for the enthusiasm, this volume of requests has greatly slowed down our response time to booking requests made via WhatsApp. Thus, to ensure that you are able to get the slot of your choice, we highly recommend appointment bookings through our Mobile App.

As we look forward to gradually welcoming you back into our spas, we understand that you may be not be ready to leave the safety of your homes just yet. Thus, we will continue to make our our Virtual Skin Education complimentary for you. The immense changes to our lifestyle, erratic climate and hormonal changes have resulted in the increase occurrence of skin sensitivity and acne for many. With the Virtual Skin Education, we hope you can learn more about your skin and keep it safe and healthy while staying home.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the love & support you’ve shown us during these difficult times. Your health is our top priority, so rest assured we will do our best to ensure it. We look forward to seeing all of you soon!

Dear Porcelain Community,

In April 2015, we opened Porcelain Aesthetics at Orchard Gateway, introducing a range of revolutionary high-tech medical grade equipment to complement our craft-focussed treatments. Since then, we have constantly invested in cutting edge equipment and honing our therapist’s skills to deliver uncompromising skincare results.

We have since transformed with the launch of Porcelain Signature, our Flagship store, and Porcelain Origins, Singapore’s first smart spa with a wellness café. With each project we undertake, we never steer from our true north of helping each and every Porcelain client achieve healthy skin from within.

As we progress, we will be consolidating our resources to focus on Porcelain Face Spa, Porcelain Origins and Porcelain Signatures and would like to inform you that we will be closing Porcelain Aesthetics at Orchard Gateway from Tuesday, 31st March 2020

With the closing of every chapter, we write new ones. We have exciting plans lined up for the rest of the year, designed and planned with you – our dear client, in mind.

The Porcelain Team will be putting all our hearts into improving our service while driving innovation through high quality, technologically advanced treatments and products. Thank you for trusting us by embarking on the Porcelain Journey; You inspire us to do better, and it’s our promise to grow and evolve with you as your life-long beauty partner.

Have you ever read a book or listened to a speech and came away from it feeling it was so vacuous, you could sum it up in a line or two? Or, conversely, finished one with your notepad chockfull of hastily scribbled notes of talking points, because there were just so many takeaways? That’s Serena Adsit’s story for us.

Part 2 of our #Origins series that kicked off with Kelly Latimer, Serena’s tale is so unapologetically honest, and revealing in how her history and experiences carved out her story of undeniable internal strength.

“My eclectic background wasn’t traditional in any way, yet I have learned some real important life lessons from the home. You are not your family, and should never let them dictate who you should be… Everyone is an individual, and should have her / his own personal freedom to work towards that. That’s a huge gift my mother has accorded me:
The choice to be whomever I wanted.

The Origins series with WearOhWhere was meant to dive deep into our interviewees’ origins — their original birthplaces and cultures and how they influence their present-day selves despite being in Singapore and away from “home”.

When we approached Serena to be a part of this series, her story took a slightly different turn. Instead of focusing on the influence of her mixed parentage, she shared how her history as a model shaped her first views of what beauty was and “should be”, creating a toxic cycle where she silently imposed judgment and expectations on others’ bodies and on her own, in line with how much of the outside world similarly does to women’s (not just models’) bodies. We talked about how, in time, she chose to break her silence on her own flaws and “broke (the) spell of perfection”, and how that granted her relief and a profound sense of freedom.

Serena agreed to the interview, while requesting that we cover more ground beyond “what is beauty, success and happiness”… which forms, I guess, the cotton-candy, fluffier aspects of most interviews with successful entrepreneurs (Serena runs Mint Singapore, a commercial modelling agency that represents talents of all ages, shapes and sizes). We talked beauty and its impositions on society at large, and how her EveryBody movement seeks to change that.

Kind of felt like a throwback to our tough interview with BBC just last year, where we discussed whether beauty businesses were profiteering off people’s insecurities and creating too much pressure on women to look a certain way.

“Being in the modelling industry, I’ve seen first-hand what unrealistic expectations can do to a person… I’ve spent years hiding my flaws like cellulite, and had boyfriends try to exercise it off me, but worst of all, it not only made me feel bad about myself and my “shortcomings”, it made me judge others based on this unrealistic expectation that I had inadvertently put on myself. That hurts me more than the burden of having cellulite — that I became judge, jury and executioner of what I mistakenly thought “beauty” means. I was done living that way, done hating the way women’s bodies are always under scrutiny. By openly discussing my own perceived flaws, it instantly broke a spell of perfection I have been trying all these years to upkeep. Instantly, I felt it allowed others to breathe a sigh of relief in knowing hey, she’s got issues just like all of us and
none of us are perfect after all.”

Beyond beauty, we talked about resilience, outgrowing friendships and finding magic in life. And played with Nephra, her gorgeous, affectionate, friendly feline.

Stay True,
