Welcome to the first post of our Foundation of Skin Care series! This series advocates basic skin care knowledge that is of the essence to attain porcelain skin. To begin with, let us start with the very first step in our skin care regime – Double cleansing.
After a long day at work, you reach home and plunge into the comfort of your bed – But wait! Did you miss something here? Despite being the most crucial step in any skincare routine, cleansing has often been brushed aside by busy and weary working ladies. However, any leftover grime and impurities can engender early signs of ageing, congested skin and even breakouts.
“But I can just rely on my facial cleanser to do the job!”
More often than not the facial cleanser alone is unable to remove all traces of makeup and sebum on your face. And this is where double-cleansing fits into the picture.
The concept of double-cleansing hatched centuries ago; ancient Japanese ladies used oil to dissolve their makeup and face paint, before using face soap to clear the remaining impurities. In contrast, most women nowadays expect their speedy facial wash to take care of the thick foundation slathered on. Even for non-makeup users, pre-cleansing is important in order to thoroughly remove the environmental pollutants accumulated through the day.
Simply put, the core of double cleansing is to incorporate an additional step prior to the facial wash, to prep the skin for a deeper cleanse. But, it is not just about removing dirt and oil. More importantly, your skin needs to be softened before other products applied can be absorbed effectively.
Step 1: Makeup Cleanser.
Cleansing products can make or break your skincare regime. At Porcelain, we believe in hydrating the skin in every step. The Revive, Makeup Cleanser is an ultra-gentle milk cleanser that lifts surface impurities while providing deep hydration for the skin. Being paraben and sulfate-free, this cleanser is suitable even on the most sensitive skin. Start applying the cleanser on the sides of your face using your fingers before moving on to the T-zone.
Step 2: Facial Cleanser.
The focus of this step is to clean out remaining sebum and dirt lodged inside the pores and wash off dissolved impurities from Step 1. Many cleansers in the market contain SLS that strip your skin of its essential oils and moisturising benefits reaped from the first step, causing dry and sensitive skin. The Soothe, Hydro Cleanser nourishes your skin with antioxidants and nutrients with its natural ingredients. Being 80% made of Aloe Vera Gel, your skin is in for a soothing cleanse that leaves your skin feeling supple and refreshed.
Here is the proper way to wash your face:
1. Squeeze a coin-sized amount of facial cleanser onto your hands.
2. Lather with water.
3. Draw small upward circles with your fingertips, gently massage the T-zone before moving on to other areas of the face.
4. Take at least a minute to thoroughly cleanse your face
5. Take another half a minute to rinse off. Just like impurities, residual facial wash could lead to skin problems.
6. Pat face dry with a clean paper towel.
And viola! There you have it – absolutely clean and clear skin! Now, your skin is ready to absorb the serum and moisturisers you slab on in your night-time routine.
